Basij Commander: Iran at Economic War with Enemy

Commander of Basij (volunteer) force Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Naqdi said enemies have waged an all-out economic war on the country, and stressed that the economy of resistance is the best way for Iran to win this war.

“We are now in economic war with the enemy,” Naqdi said in a meeting in Iran’s Southwestern city of Shahr-e Kord on Wednesday.

Naqdi pointed to the Iranian Supreme Leader’s remarks about Economy of Resistance to deter enemies’ plots, and said, “It is possible to resist well in this war and make the enemy fail in achieving its devilish goals through a proper practice of the economy of resistance.”

To put the economy of resistance into practice, economy should be taught to the people and the production sector should be strengthened, specially in rural areas, he reiterated.

In August 2012, Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei underlined the importance of resistance economy for Iran, saying that Tehran can deter the western states’ plots and also maintain its progress this way.

“In this (kind of) economy both the trend of the country’s progress will be maintained and the vulnerability of the (country’s) economic system against enemies’ tricks will decrease,” Ayatollah Khamenei said, addressing members of the Iranian cabinet in Tehran at the time.

Elaborating on the requirements of resistance economy, the Leader said all physical, human, governmental and non-governmental capacities need to be employed, and reminded that the private sector plays a pivotal role in this type of economy.
